RRome, May 28th. (askanews) – “Nid Platform” is ten years old and arrives in Piedmont for the first time, an acronym for the new Italian Dance Platform: the new edition was presented in Rome at the Ministry of Culture.
From 1st to 4th September, the traveling showcase returns dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of the most recent national choreographic production in the Italian and international context. For four days, Collegno, Moncalieri, Turin and Venaria Reale will host shows, Open Studios, performances, meetings, in-depth panels, under the title, this year, of “Choreographies of the Possible”. A theme that recalls the principles of dance and the ability to imagine new connections between artists, places, audiences, institutions and territories.
Undersecretary of Culture Giampiero Cannella: “A fundamental initiative for the valorisation of contemporary dance and especially of young talents, and of those who animate this sector, it is a sector that combines identity, the social function of culture and valorisation of the territory”.
Marina Chiarelli, Councilor for Culture, Equal Opportunities and Youth Policies of the Piedmont Region: “The Piedmont Region does not limit itself to hosting large events such as Nid 2026 but creates an infrastructure capable of welcoming an important language today such as that of contemporary dance which animates spaces and creates that substratum of cultural infrastructure on which Piedmont is a master”.
The event passes through places already marked by urban and cultural regeneration processes: Steam Laundry in Collegno, Fonderie Limone in Moncalieri, Teatro Astra, Ogr Turin, Casa del Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani in Turin and Royal Palace of Venaria Reale. Former production spaces, refunctionalized architecture, residence centers, contemporary theaters and historical-architectural heritage that make up a widespread geography, in which dance inhabits spaces already crossed by transformation processes and puts them back into relationship with artists, professionals and communities.
The program includes 18 proposals divided into two sections: “Programming” (14 shows) and “Open Studios” (4 works in development), plus two guest productions.
Among the proposals in the Programming section, “Abracadabra” by Francesca Pennini, performer and choreographer, founder of the innovative ensemble CollettivO CineticO and “Epiphania. Mi rendomanifesto”, an investigation into the feminine, between cultural heritage, body and identity, by the Compagnia Abbondanza Bertoni, founded and directed by the artist couple Michele Abbondanza and Antonella Bertoni; and “Le fenicie”, a work inspired by Euripides’ tragedy of the same name and created for his company, Balletto Civile, by Michela Lucenti, dancer, author, choreographer and director, among the most successful figures on the European scene.
One of the most important innovations of the tenth edition is grafted onto the Open Studios: the relationship between Nid Platform and the system of artistic residencies: for the four selected projects, residency periods will be available, before the presentation in September, with comparisons and intermediate openings, created in collaboration with some subjects of the system of Italian artistic residencies, between Castiglioncello, Soverato, Verbania and Turin. Not selected, the two guest productions: “The Second Paradox of Zenone”, by Elisabetta Consonni and “Breathing Room”, a performance by Salvo Lombardo, which draws inspiration from “Silence is a living thing” by Chandra Livia Candiani.
The 2026 edition will be accompanied by three international in-depth panels, dedicated to central themes for the contemporary dance system: urban regeneration, the role of ecosystems and residences, the value of dance as a language capable of producing cultural and social transformation. The project is shared with the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Entertainment as well as, this year, with the Piedmont Region, coordinated by the Piemonte dal Vivo Foundation, with the contribution of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
