Radio Suomipop’s Aamulypsy radio hosts Juuso Mäkilähti and Tuukka Ritokoski’s journey to the World Cup on Sunday was feverishly followed on social media and also on the pages of Iltalehti.
On Sunday, May 31, Mäkilähde and Ritokoski went to Zurich, Switzerland, to watch the final match of the World Ice Hockey Championships. However, due to a thunderstorm, the flight was severely delayed and the entire final was missed. Finally, the duo made it to the hall during the second set.
In Tuesday’s morning milking broadcast, it was discussed hour by hour events of the race before and after the match. Tiina Reetta “Tinni” Wikström, Mäkilähti’s and Ritokoski’s host colleague, listened to the duo’s eventful journey while laughing.
After the match, the duo headed from the arena to the Swiss nightlife to celebrate Finland’s victory. Mäkilähde said on the radio that Ritokoski bought a bottle of red wine from the arena as a travel drink. According to Mäkilähte, the yard of the arena was otherwise very quiet, but they bumped into Yle’s sports reporter by chance Jussi Saarinen and Simo Arkkoonwho were doing their final report from the yard of the arena. Radio presenters talked to Yle journalists and offered red wine to Finnish journalists.
– Tuukka wondered if the champions would like a glass of red wine. I can say that I have never seen so fast that my friends’ work gloves fall off. The cap creaked open and Tuukka started pouring championship cups. It is said that the boys were not in such a hurry with the final report, Mäkilähde said on the radio.
Shutdowns to the hotel room
Mäkilähde said on the radio that Ritokoski in particular was in a flying mood during the Swiss night. Before the official stories, Mäkilähde asked Ritokoski on the radio for a safe word in case the complaints told on the live broadcast were too sensitive for Ritokoski.
– The situation was that after Finland’s victorious game, Tuuka and I went to celebrate in the darkening night of Zurich. We had our own backpacks on our backs and our own Hotel without checking, Mäkilähde began his story.
The two decided to check into the hotel around two o’clock in the morning before moving on to the nightlife for good. The men went to their own hotel rooms, but Ritokoski was afraid that he would fall asleep in the room. He called and asked that Mäkilähde come knock on the door of the hotel room soon.
– Four minutes passed after the call, I was behind Tuukka’s door, I knocked on the door, called the phone, nothing seemed to happen [vastausta]Mäkilähde described.
– This could be straight out of a Stetson, I can’t prove it, and I can’t deny it. I don’t have any memories. That red wine is devilish for us, it takes away all my memory, Ritokoski defended.

Mäkilähde said that he asked the hotel reception for another key, which he used to enter Ritokoski’s hotel room. Ritokoski was sleeping on the bed with the phone in his hand. However, Mäkilähde decided that Ritokoski must be brought up and celebrate Finland’s victory. According to Mäkilähje, Ritokoski slept for a while on the bed and on the side of the bathroom, until he wanted to “have fun” and go party.
– The guy’s prank was that he fell on his face on the carpet. Took a break from it. At that point I said that now I’m going to see if there’s even any mood here. I walked over Tuukka and left her on the floor to sleep, Mäkilähde said with a slightly bitter tone.
After a while, Mäkilähde returned to the hotel room, where Ritokoski had lifted himself up a little from the feel of the carpet. Mäkilähde said that he urged Ritokoski to sleep until Ritokoski popped up from the floor ready to party.
– Tuukka stood up in that narrow hallway. When he stands up, there is a wobble towards another wall, but the wall catches up. At that point, Tuukka tries to get up again from the wall, but at that point he took the correction in the other direction.
– At that point I see that the journey continues towards another wall, but Tuukka disappears from my sight inside the wall. The boys had made a place for the blankets and others in it, Tuukka pulled right there, Mäkilähde described the situation when Ritokoski fell on the peg.
According to a mountain source, Ritokoski finally lay down with his sneakers towards the ceiling in the corners of the creek.
– There were hangers on the nose and everywhere. That’s why we pulled the guy up and started to punch. We left the hotel and looked for a party, Mäkilähde summed up.
In the end, Ritokoski and Mäkilähde found their way to celebrate Finland’s victory.
