A gunman shot dead six people in the US state of Iowa and then took his own life. That happened in the city of Muscatine on the Mississippi River in the eastern part of the state.

All victims are said to be relatives of the 52-year-old shooter, but their identities have not yet been released. They were shot dead in various places in the city.

The police report that the incident may have stemmed from “an argument in the family atmosphere”. The shooter is said to have fled after the shooting, but was found by police along the riverbank. While officers tried to talk to him there, he allegedly took his own life.

Police chief Anthony Kies calls it an “act of evil”. According to local media, the victims include children.
