The great TV success stopped relatively early for Henny Huisman. For years he was the big star on RTL 4, until Idols came along and he had to leave the field. Was there enough time to cash in?
Henny Huisman has never been able to fully process how ruthlessly RTL 4 put him aside from one day to the next. For years he presented entertainment programs on the channel with great success, until Idols conquered the world and he suddenly had to make room for a new formula with new presenters. Painful.
Not a saver
We have heard Henny asking for a TV comeback for decades, but is that for the money or because he wants it? The latter, although he does not have millions in the bank, he admits in the Weekend.
Henny is not very wealthy. “Money has never been my motivation – that was the love for the profession. I have earned a lot of money in my life, but I have also spent a lot of money. I have never been good at saving, Lia is better at that.”
Crazy things
All that TV money quickly went out of Henny’s hands. “I’m just not much of a saver, I’m more of a spender. I don’t do all that crazy stuff either, but you can’t call me frugal. I’ve always been generous. I still am.”
He continues: “I can do just as much for something I don’t get paid for as I can for something I do get paid for. That’s the entertainment blood that runs through my veins.”
No grand prize
Henny recently tried to get a soap opera about his life on the air. That would provide a nice salary. “But nowadays I no longer get paid the top prize and that doesn’t matter, because I enjoy it just as much. I still get requests every day if I can make a video for someone’s birthday.”
He does take those snacks with him. “I bought such a stand specifically so I could record it for people and they are so happy with it!”
Biting on wood
How much money does Henny have exactly? “We don’t have to bite the bullet, then you have done it completely wrong. Our house has been paid off, including the one on Bonaire. But it is not the case that we all have properties or other investments here and there.”
In other words: he paid off his real estate, and that’s it. “We have our houses and that’s fine.”
