Roberto Funes Ugarte addressed the case about the crime of Agostina Vega in a broadcast of his cycle broadcast by La Nación+. In this context, the journalist maintained that the young woman used multiple accounts on social networks and stated that ““I had seven Instagram profiles,” information that, as he explained on air, arose from data handled by people close to the investigation and the teenager’s environment. The reference occurred while analyzing the different lines that tried to reconstruct the victim’s digital contacts and the mechanisms through which he communicated with different people.

The driver’s statements appeared in the middle of television coverage that sought to explain what the teenager’s last hours were like before she disappeared. As reported in different media, investigators analyzed cell phones, social media profiles, private messages and digital communications to determine who had contact with the young woman during the days prior to the crime. Within this expert work, different accounts used by the victim are studied, although so far the prosecution has not officially released an exact number of profiles nor has it publicly confirmed all the details mentioned in television programs.

Funes Ugarte listed that the young woman “had seven Instagram profiles” and maintained that, according to information that was circulating, she used those accounts to maintain contact with different men. In that same television intervention, the host pointed out that the 14-year-old girl “send photos and videos” through those accounts, while highlighting that investigators were trying to reconstruct all the digital contacts that the teenager had maintained before disappearing.

The case began on Saturday night, May 23, when Vega left his house in the General Mosconi neighborhood, in the city of Córdoba. According to the reconstruction carried out by the investigators, the young woman took a taxi and traveled approximately 50 blocks to the house of Claudio Gabriel Barrelier, his mother’s ex-partner, Melisa Heredia. Security cameras recorded the moment the young woman got out of the vehicle and entered the suspect’s home. Since then she has not been seen alive again.

During the following days, an extensive search operation was deployed led by the Córdoba Police, with the participation of sniffer dogs, specialized personnel and technological analysis teams. The investigation took a turn when Barrelier began to fall into contradictions regarding his movements and the presence of Agostina Vega in his home. The expert reports on telephones and audiovisual records ended up placing him as the last person who was with the teenager before her disappearance.

This weekend, the searches carried out in a vacant lot in the Ampliación Ferreyra neighborhood made it possible to find human remains that were later identified as belonging to Agostina Vega. The discovery caused a deep shock in Córdoba and led to public expressions of pain and requests for justice from family members, neighbors and social organizations.

Currently, the investigation is focused on the results of the autopsy and the possibility that other people besides the only detainee participated. The prosecutor Raul Garzon confirmed that forensic studies are decisive in reconstructing the mechanics of the crime and establishing whether there was sexual abuse, supply of substances or any other element that could aggravate the accusation against Barrelier. The first reports indicate that complementary analyzes are still being carried out to specify the exact cause of death and the date of death.

Another hypothesis that the prosecution keeps open is the possible participation of collaborators or accessories. Investigators are trying to determine if someone helped move or hide the body, especially based on different movements detected in the days after the disappearance. For this reason, the investigations continue on telephones, vehicles and communications linked to the accused’s environment.

The latest data released about the autopsy indicate that specialists are seeking to establish precisely whether the victim died from asphyxiation, blows, injuries or another mechanism that is still under analysis. An attempt is also being made to determine if there were signs of sexual abuse and if the teenager received any type of sedative or substance before her death. These results will be key to defining the final qualification of the case, which could lead to an accusation of aggravated femicide and expand the scope of the investigation on all those involved.
