Last game before leaving North America

June 1, 2026 – 9:51 p.mReading time: 1 min.

Turkey wins their last friendly before leaving for North America. Can Uzun plays a central role in this.
With his first goal in the national jersey, Can Uzun led Turkey in a 4-0 friendly win against North Macedonia. The 20-year-old professional from Eintracht Frankfurt scored in the 16th minute and also made it 3-0 – in only his fifth appearance for the senior national team.
Uzun could have scored even earlier: he hit the crossbar a few seconds after kick-off. Orkun Kökcü scored the opening goal in the 2nd minute. After a cross from Uzun, Deniz Gül increased the score to 3-0 in the 53rd minute. Baris Yilmaz made the final score in the 70th minute.
The World Cup dress rehearsal against Venezuela awaits next Sunday in Fort Lauderdale. Coach Vincenzo Montella’s team starts the tournament on June 14th against Australia. Other opponents in the preliminary round are Paraguay and co-hosts USA. Participation in the World Cup is a rarity for Turkey: the country has only appeared in the finals twice – in 1954 and 2002.
