Former football player Marko Koivuranta has died at the age of 48, informs the Rovaniemi Palloseura. RoPS was the foster club of Koivuranta.
– Marko was already known as a reliable, fast and skilled player at a young age. He started as a forward, but later moved to fullback, RoPS writes in its Instagram post.
Koivuranta, born in Rovaniemi, represented FC Jazz, AC Oulu and FC YPA, among others, in addition to RoPS. Koivuranta debuted in the Veikkausliiga in the 1995 season, and his major league career ended in the 2009 season in RoPS.
In the 1990s, Koivuranta was also seen in the youth national teams.
After his playing career, Koivuranta continued in RoPS as a checker and junior manager and coached age teams on both the girls’ and boys’ side.
RoPS remembers Koivuranta by holding a moment of silence before next Tuesday’s series match against OLS. The match will be played at Keskuskent at 19:00.
