VOLLEYBALL – The Koopmansplein in Assen will be completely dedicated to beach volleyball this weekend. During a round of the Premier League beach volleyball, the best teams in the Netherlands compete against each other. And with several players from Sudosa, the Drenthe contribution is also significant.

For Stéan Barkhuis it feels like a home game: “Yes, very nice. Fifteen minutes by bike and then I’m there. That makes it very special. Especially in the center of Assen.”

The beach volleyball competition consists of several rounds spread throughout the country. Previously, the games were played in Heerlen, while later this season they will be played in Nijmegen, Zandvoort, Almelo, Groningen, Utrecht, Lelystad and The Hague, where the Dutch championship will also be held. During those rounds, teams collect points for the rankings.

Iris Reinders from Grolloo is also visibly enjoying the tournament in Assen. The beach volleyball player has been active at the highest level for years and does not have to make a long car journey this time.

“That is very special. I have sometimes complained that I always have to drive two hours for a tournament. Now I can just go by bike. Moreover, many girls from Sudosa and family and friends have come to watch. That makes it extra fun.”
