It is currently unclear which league 1860 Munich will play in next season. A well-known name could soon join the club.
Third division soccer team 1860 Munich is apparently interested in signing Matthew Collins, son of music superstar Phil Collins. This is reported by the “Bild” newspaper. Accordingly, the 21-year-old will soon complete a trial training session in Munich.
Collins was born in Switzerland and has played for the U19 team of Hannover 96 and the Austrian professional club WSG Tirol in his career. Most recently he was active for SV Austria Salzburg in the second Austrian league.
The possible commitment comes in a phase of great sporting uncertainty for 1860. According to information from “Bild”, the “Lions” are currently 2.7 million euros short of obtaining a license for the 3rd league. Proof of solvency must be provided to the German Football Association by June 3rd. This means that the traditional club is threatened with falling into the fourth division.
Matthew Collins’ father Phil is a true music icon. First with the band Genesis and later as a solo artist, the 75-year-old landed numerous global hits such as “Another Day in Paradise” and “In the Air tonight”. Recently he has also been present more often at his son’s football games. Maybe a real superstar could soon find his way into the stands of German stadiums.
