NHL legend Claude Lemieux60, was found dead Thursday morning in the furniture store he owned.
Lemieux was booked into the NHL by the Montreal Canadiens, in whose ranks he celebrated the first Stanley Cup of his career in his rookie season in 1986.
– This is a dark day for the Canadiens family and the entire hockey community. I would like to offer my most sincere and deepest condolences to Claude’s family and loved ones. He was a fierce fighter who stood out in big moments. Claude was an unyielding, courageous and tenacious player who led his team to the highest honors, the owner of the Canadian club Geoff Molson said according to the NHL website.
– He embodied the deepest essence of a Canadiens player. Today we mourn the untimely passing of one of our Masters. Our thoughts are with his family on this difficult day.
Lemieux played 1215 regular season games in the NHL and scored 786 points in them. In the playoffs, the pace even improved a little. The man who won four Stanley Cups recorded 158 points in 234 playoff games.
Lemieux is best remembered for his ruthless style of play, which earned him enemies around the league.
On his own side, however, he enjoyed unwavering respect.
– We are shocked by Claude’s passing. “Pepe” was a great hockey player, a fierce competitor and a winner in every way. “He was also a loyal friend who would do anything for his teammates and someone you could always count on,” said Joe Sakic, who played with Lemieux on the Colorado Avalanche’s 1996 championship team.
– Above all, he was a wonderful family man and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren the most.
Lemieux has also been remembered by the president Donald Trump In an update to his Truth Social account.
Trump describes him as a legend and one of the toughest competitors hockey has ever seen.
– Claude was a family friend and a huge Trump supporter, Trump wrote and added numbers from Lemieux’s career.
– Brendan [Lemieux’n poika]Deborah and the entire Lemieux family, my thoughts are with you. You and your father were fighters on ice. Claude will be missed by all who love to win and be tough.
According to many sources, Lemieux’s cause of death is suspected to be suicide.
