The PSV women won the Eredivisie Cup, an extra cup tournament in women’s football in addition to the KNVB Cup, with a 3-0 victory over Ajax. This gives their season an almost completely golden edge: the Eindhoven team previously became national champions for the first time in club history. Only the KNVB Cup turned out to be just out of reach.

They defeated Ajax 3-0 in the final in Eindhoven on Saturday. Chimera Ripa, Fenna Kalma and Sisca Folkertsma scored the goals at De Herdgang.

The Eredivisie Cup is the second cup tournament for football players and was launched seven years ago. PSV now won the tournament for the third time. FC Twente and Ajax both triumphed twice.

Making history
On May 8, the PSV women wrote history by winning the first national title in club history. In a sold-out TenCate Stadium De Herdgang, the Eindhoven team won 2-0 against ADO Den Haag.

During that exuberant celebration, the brand new bowl had to suffer for a while. “Uhm, yes, it hit the ground,” captain Laura Strik said earlier to Omroep Brabant, as she looked at the slightly twisted edge of the bowl. “I don’t have an active memory of it. But that’s part of it and it doesn’t have to be perfect,” she laughed at the ceremony at city hall.

Penalties
The women then wanted to go for the double with full conviction. In the final of the KNVB Cup they crossed swords with FC Twente. The hope at the city hall was still pinned on a completely golden season, but PSV lost to the Tukkers on penalties.

By winning the Eredivisie Cup, the PSV women still end the season with a slightly distorted bowl and a shiny cup in the trophy cabinet.
