Javier Milei is in a more than uncomfortable position, pulled by two sides that are fighting for the power that theoretically belongs to him. As he is a leader who is not very fond of the give and take of politics, and is fanatical, on the other hand, with the numbers of the economy and the mud of social networks, naturally the day-to-day management was left in other hands. Today, in those of his sister, the general secretary of the Presidency, and in those of the advisor Santiago Caputo. The brawl between the two has been escalating in recent months, with a clear predominance of Karina Milei, and is generating growing noises in the markets and public opinion. The obvious question is: can a government that fights itself build power? And secondly: why doesn’t the President intervene?

The answer to the first question is not clear, since the ruling party managed to win the midterm elections despite the wild internal contest. But on the second question there is no doubt: Milei finds it difficult to intercede, to mediate in that fight, because one of the sides is led by her own sister. The psychological and emotional dependence that the President has on her – extensively analyzed and documented by this magazine – makes it impossible for him to appear impartial. He does not want to get rid of Caputo – the man who, among other things, helped bring financial aid from the North American Treasury at a crucial moment in the Mileista administration – but he cannot find a way to defend him against Karina’s advance guard. The cold-cloth photos that the three members of the Iron Triangle took at the event on May 25 barely manage to conceal the conflict, which continues to grow behind the scenes.

Milei seems to have his hands tied.
