Talpa advisor Chris Woerts, who negotiates sports rights on behalf of SBS 6, finds it inconvenient that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk has been brought in. “That doesn’t suit SBS at all, dude.”

Years after the De Wereld Draait Door scandal – he behaved like an executioner in the editorial office of the program – Matthijs van Nieuwkerk makes his comeback on television. He will present a program about soul legend Aretha Franklin together with Shirma Rouse. Sounds very NPO, but it will actually be broadcast on SBS 6.

‘It doesn’t fit’

An achievement, says Johan Derksen. “I am proud that SBS 6 has arranged this. I think he raises the level of SBS 6, although I am afraid that the average SBS viewer would prefer John de Bever,” he says in Today Inside.

Sports marketer Chris Woerts, who negotiates sports rights on behalf of Talpa, thinks it is a mistake. “That doesn’t suit SBS at all, aretha Franklin and Matthijs van Nieuwkerk! This is a typical NPO program.”

To raise

Johan thinks that SBS 6 can educate the viewers. “Yes, but Chris, you can also educate the viewer a bit, because why are they not interested in Aretha Franklin. Why don’t they know that music? It’s not on the radio.”

Table guest Job Knoester: “I might have done it with Rob Kemps. He is also his friend who has supported him through thick and thin.”

‘No Rob!’

What a silly plan, Johan thinks. “Rob Kemps should be banned from talking about soul and blues, right? Have you ever seen Aretha Franklin move from left to right?”

Job: “No, but that could be a reporter, right?”

Johan: “No, he is a specialist in French chansons and please let him stay there!”

Chris: “This is NPO!”

Dolly Parton

Bar guest Raymond Mens sees potential in it. “Now it just happens to be Aretha Franklin, but he might also do it about Dolly Parton and that history. I think it could be quite fun.”

Chris: “Britney Spears. That suits SBS. You have to look at the channel’s profile!”

Johan: “You’re right in that sense: when I used to take an American blues guitarist with me, I would get kicked in the ass the next day, because 400,000 people walked away.”
