The Ice Hockey World Cup quarterfinals cost Veikkaus hundreds of thousands of euros.

Finland advanced to the semi-finals. Pasi Liesimaa

Veikkaus made losses of hundreds of thousands of euros due to the quarter-final matches of the World Hockey Championships.

– You already knew that when you looked at the evening’s results, that a huge number of long-shot wins were paid out, when all the favorites won their matches by at least two goals, senior analyst at Veikkaus Teemu Eirtovaara says in Veikkaus’ announcement.

Pre-favorites Finland, Canada, Switzerland and Norway won each of their quarter-final matches.

– The evening was expensive for us. Our customers’ winnings consisted of a huge amount of bets of a few euros or tens of euros, where most or all of the pre-favorites of the quarter-finals had been played as winners, says Eirtovaara.

By playing the pre-favorites of each quarter-final pair of the Ice Hockey World Championships, the total coefficient was 9.38.

According to Eirtovaara, Switzerland became the champion favorite of the tournament. The probability of its championship is 42 percent. The probability of the gold is raised by the semi-final opponent Norway.

The Lions will win the championship with a 22 percent probability.

The World Cup semi-finals will be played on Saturday. Finland meets Canada.
