– Someone would say a sensation. A great opening, I say. In Finland, there is a very realistic view of a big women’s sculls success at the European Championships.
That’s what Iltalehti’s athletics expert says Arto Bryggare.

In Bergen, the series was of high quality: 74.44, 77.35, 69.60, 71.71, 71.91 and 75.01 meters.
Fluctuations in performance are the result of Kymenlaakso’s grower technology.
– You have to be really precise with the timing. Tervo has a very special way of speeding up, because the speed accelerates really violently. Kosonen, 23, was also hit in Bergen. He flew a four-kilogram device to 75.90 meters. Other measured performances carried 75.21, 75.52, 74.64 and 75.82 meters.
– Such stories are what Finnish sport needs. Guys can do that, push each other and fight for the top spot, it’s great. It’s not an easy pattern. I have noticed that it is difficult for women to share such a situation.
An important local guy in Bryggare’s sprint hurdles career was a six-time silver medalist at the Kaleva Games Reijo Byman.
– Reijo and I were always alone at the camps. We had similar interests and even listened to similar music. Reijo helped me a lot.
Superior in Europe

This year there is no global competition in women’s moukari. At the new World Athletics Ultimate Championship event in Budapest, only men’s sculls are on the program.
Possibly the only competition where almost all of the world’s best women’s tennis players are participating at the same time in the summer of 2026 is the Polish Diamond League at the end of August.
– If Tervo throws like he did in Bergen, it’s a sure medal at the European Championships in Birmingham, Bryggare announces.
When the frozen Russians and Belarusians are removed from the European list, the Finns have their own metric numbers. Kosonen’s best for the 2026 season is 76.40 meters so far.
– Apart from the Finns, there are no others in Europe who can throw 77 meters.
This season, after the Finns, there is a Dane in the statistics Katrine Koch Jacobsen (75.52) and French Rose Logo (75,19).
Last summer, the Finns threw more than 77 meters, but no other European even exceeded 75 meters.
