Councilor Daan Hooiveld has announced that he will immediately leave Gemeentebelangen Borger-Odoorn. He recently noticed that there was a major difference of opinion between him and the board.
Hooiveld’s second period as a councilor at Gemeentebelangen lasted only 57 days. According to him, the difference of opinion is too great. ‘This has led to an irreparable breach of trust. I deeply regret that,” Hooiveld writes in a letter addressed to the municipal council.
Hooiveld also states in the letter that he will continue alone. I will continue to work for our residents in the same way, with the same energy and according to the original principles from which Gemeentebelangen Borger-Odoorn was founded.’
Hooiveld’s departure was in the pipeline according to party chairman Freek Buijtelaar. ‘Differences of opinion piled up. Last Tuesday we already informed Daan that things could not continue this way. If Daan himself had not resigned, we would have ensured that he could no longer speak on our behalf. It’s a shame, because he was only just back on our list.’
Buijtelaar regrets the state of affairs. ‘It really eats away at people within the party. We have a history with Daan. He is a great talent. Someone with a heart for the business and society, but we grew apart. Ultimately, we now have to put our energy into formation.’
Hooiveld first came to the municipal council for Municipal Interests in January 2019 after the death of councilor Miranda Pathuis. He resigned in March 2022 after leaking the informant’s report. Ultimately, he stayed on as a councilor.
