A car flew out of the bend on Thursday evening, crashed into a tree and then ended up on its side on the Kuilenrode in Hooge Mierde. The driver was said to have been under the influence and was taken to hospital under police escort.
The accident happened around a quarter past seven. The impact against the tree caused the car to land on its side. The emergency services responded en masse to the accident.
Miraculously, the driver was virtually unharmed. However, he was taken to hospital under police escort because he was said to have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The road has been closed to all traffic. The car, which was severely damaged, has been recovered and the tree has been cleared.
