Lok Leipzig threatens to fail for the third time in the promotion games to the 3rd league. In the first leg against the Würzburger Kickers, the Seitz team suffered a deserved defeat and needs a small miracle on Monday.
That was simply not enough: 1. FC Lok Leipzig lost the promotion game to the 3rd league against the Würzburger Kickers 0-1. On Monday (6:30 p.m. in the audio stream & live ticker), given the strong guests, it will take a small miracle to avoid having to play in the Northeast Regional League for another year. Würzburg was superior in all respects, especially in the second half.
McLemore is missing for a short time
It was already clear before the game that it wouldn’t be enough for the Leipzig duo Stefan Maderer and Laurin von Piechowski. During the final training session, Malik McLemore suffered a strain and had to pass. Eren Öztürk moved into the starting lineup. Eroll Zejnullahu was missing from the guests due to injury.
Naumann with a double save – Öztürk misses the lead
The atmosphere with the 10,000 people in the Plache Stadium was suitable for the third division. Initially, both teams, who started understandably nervously, were anxious not to fall behind. Then the guests provided the first real highlight in the 24th minute. Jermain Nischalke ran up and down the left side. However, keeper Andreas Naumann was able to turn his shot from 15 meters around the right post with a great reflex. After the subsequent corner, there was fire again in front of the Leipzig goal. Tarsis Bonga headed powerfully, Naumann cleared it sensationally and the ball also hit the crossbar.
Naumann and the crossbar save the zero after Bonga’s header.
How did Lok react? With a strong move from the eye-catching Eren Öztürk, who shot down the right side and forced keeper Johann Hipper to make a save. Now there was real fire, it was crackling, the duels were heated. And Lok had a good phase, but Ayodele Adetuala couldn’t get the ball past keeper Hipper in the 33rd minute after a Siebeck pass. There were no big chances for either side until the break.
Omore shocks Lok Leipzig – Würzburg leaves a lot behind
Würzburg came into the second half better and led after 50 minutes. Bonga was able to cross unhindered on the left side, Liam Omore ran up and headed the ball into the right corner from eight meters. This hit had an impact, Lok didn’t do much after that.
Würzburg celebrates after the opening goal.
Würzburg itself tried to follow up and now had the game under control. And while Leipzig hardly ever got the ball dangerously into the penalty area, Cherif Cisse could have closed the bag in the 73rd minute. He ran freely towards the Lok goal, could have crossed the ball, but shot the ball over the box. And just a few minutes later, a shot from Nischalke shaved the crossbar of the Leipzig goal. The guests were more grippy and now won many duels, while Lok didn’t want to come up with much.
Disappointment after the game for Jochen Seitz and captain Djamal Ziane.
