The causes of the fire are under investigation by the authorities. The mayor of Alghero, Raimondo Cacciotto, declared: “Already in recent months we had formally requested the national government to strengthen the presence of the police forces in the area with an increase in the staff and equipment necessary also for carrying out complex investigations such as these. I appeal to all political forces, in particular those with government responsibilities, to strongly support the need for decisive and concrete intervention by the State and, at the same time, act with the necessary caution and sense of responsibility in fueling a public debate based on suggestions and summary information. All the episodes that have occurred in the recent past appear to be single episodes, unrelated to each other, involving different people and different contexts, and a picture of this type makes the investigations even more complex”.
