Minister Boekholt-O’Sullivan (Public Housing and Spatial Planning) supports the construction of 13,000 homes, 9,000 of which are in the affordable segment, with more than 77 million euros. She writes this to the House of Representatives.

The money comes from a scheme (the Housing Development Impulse) that the ministry opened to municipalities in 2020 to stimulate housing construction. Some projects do not get off the ground due to excessive investment risks or complex circumstances, but they still go ahead, partly thanks to the subsidy.

The subsidy scheme will be opened in phases. In this last round, 95 million euros was available. 24 Municipalities submitted 26 applications worth 109 million euros. The assessment committee positively assessed 16 applications and awarded 77.7 million. The remaining budget remains available for a next round in the autumn.

The subsidy supports the construction of 13,000 homes. The leader is Leeuwarden with 3,034 homes, followed by Deventer (2,103) and Oss (1,600). The majority of the supported projects (69%) concern affordable housing (9,000). This concerns social rent, mid-range rent, or regulated purchase.

Minister Boekholt – O’Sullivan: “We not only need to build more, but also affordably. A house for every wallet to feel at home. That is why I am pleased that municipalities are using this scheme to boost the number of affordable homes.

Since the opening of the Housing Construction Impulse, 1.3 billion euros in subsidies have been granted. This has supported the construction of around a quarter of a million homes. In terms of number, it is comparable to all homes in The Hague. Two-thirds of these fall into the affordable segment.

An average of 1 billion per year is available for the period 2025-2029, divided over several schemes. Money has also been reserved for the Eindhoven metropolitan region (MRE), where the demand for housing is high. At the same time as the Housing Development Impulse, Minister Boekholt-O’Sullivan announces that he will allocate a total of 4 million euros for the construction of 300 homes (of which approximately 70% will be affordable).
