There are a total of eight men who, according to the justice department, committed seven robberies in varying combinations.
Nearly two years after their convictions, four of them will appeal, which starts tomorrow and will last for days. These are Glenn V. (33) from Noord-Scharwoude, Ruviëni M. (41) from Rotterdam, Deniz R. (30) from Obdam and Mark V. (34) from Opmeer.
One of the other people involved died in 2022. Another suspect was a minor and was convicted behind closed doors. Two men have resigned themselves to their sentences.
Hard core
The four that appear today, previously labeled by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) as the ‘hard core’, were involved in almost all robberies, according to the justice department.
The robbery gang committed seven brutal robberies between August 2020 and July 2021. One at a gas station in Nieuwe-Niedorp, but also at homes in mainly North Holland where elderly people lived. There was even a robbery across the provincial border in Dreumel, Gelderland.
One person was also killed during the robberies: 72-year-old Sjaak Groot from Berkhout was shot in his house after a struggle with the robbers and died with his phone still in his hand, with which he had tried to call 112 just before his death.
