A man ended up with his car in the ditch on Wolfshoek in Elshout on Wednesday evening. The driver was injured and taken to hospital by ambulance.

The accident happened around ten to ten in the evening. The motorist overtook another car at high speed before ending up in the water. According to local residents, the man was not conscious at first.

The police and ambulance workers tried to get him out of the car, but they were unsuccessful. One of the local residents then brought a ladder from home to gain better access. The windows of the car were smashed on the side so that the man could still be removed.

A towing company then removed the heavily damaged car from the water and removed it.
