The houseboat had a mooring along the Zaan in Wormerveer. The fire spread quickly that night, and by the time the fire brigade arrived on site, the two victims were already on the quay.
One of the two was so seriously injured that he was transported to hospital by a special Mobile Medical Team. After the man’s death, the police conducted a death investigation, a spokesperson said. Except that he did not die as a result of a crime, the police cannot make any further statements about the man’s death.
Investigation into fire is still ongoing
The investigation into the fire on the houseboat is still ongoing. The two men did not own the vessel, but due to the ongoing investigation the police cannot say anything about what the men did on the boat in the middle of the night and under what circumstances the fire broke out.
It is currently unknown how the other injured person is doing.
