Will there be a royal flair at the upcoming Darts World Championship in London? According to Luke Littler, Prince William could be drawn to the “Ally Pally”.
Last week Littler was honored by Prince William at Windsor Castle as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his sporting achievements. Will there be a return visit to the Darts World Cup in December?
“Prince William said he had been following the developments and we talked about how darts had grown in popularity,” Littler was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
The heir to the British throne has taken a liking to darts. “He even said himself that it looked like a great evening, so maybe we’ll see Prince William at Ally Pally this year,” Littler revealed.
The two-time darts world champion made it clear: “I didn’t invite him, but if he needs some tickets, I or the PDC will definitely get some.”
Luke Littler is the darts king
Littler has become darts king in recent years. At the age of 19, the Englishman has won almost every important title in the PDC professional association. Because of this, Littler can now call himself a “Member of the Order of the British Empire”.
“When I arrived at Windsor Castle I just thought, ‘How did I get here? Why am I here?’ It was a crazy experience. And then you just have to think about what I’ve done for the sport,” said “The Nuke” looking back on his visit to Prince William.
“Obviously awards like this aren’t usually given to people so young, but given what I’ve done for my sport it’s incredible and the response has been fantastic,” enthused Littler.
At the Darts World Cup in 2027, the world number one could win the title for the third time in a row. Only Phil Taylor achieved this feat at the PDC (last between 2004 and 2006).
