Millions of people tuned in for the final between Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano. But after just over 30 minutes the game was paused.
A medical emergency in the stands led to a minute-long interruption of the Conference League final. After just over half an hour, Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper Augusto Batalla sat down on the ground and pointed towards the fan block behind his goal. Referee Maurizio Mariani initially didn’t know what was going on. After a short conversation with Batalla, he interrupted the game against Crystal Palace.
RTL Nitro presenter Marco Hagemann and expert Lothar Matthäus, like the fans in front of the television sets, puzzled over what was the reason for the interruption. Some players on the pitch also asked why the game didn’t continue.
A short time later, information came that a fan in the Rayo block had fallen down the stairs and needed medical attention. The scoreboard in the stadium also showed this. In the TV images you could see how paramedics rushed to the affected fan. After a break of several minutes, the game continued.
