The former coach of, among others, Vicenza and Udinese explained the relationship between coaches and transfer managers: “You have to trust each other, there’s no need to make best friends or go to dinner. In Udine we had a club of forerunners, they were ten years ahead of everyone…”
In the chat with Francesco Guidolin, two words stand out. “Lessons” when he refers to his players and “trust” when he talks about presidents and sporting directors who have worked with him. He has coached for almost thirty years, starting from the bottom: he had to conquer everything, putting values and respect first. “I’m not a talker, someone who likes to be the protagonist. I prefer to let the pitch talk.” It has always been like this, it was like this in C at the beginning and it has been like this for years in Serie A. “Thanks to my apprenticeship I learned how to work. It trained me.” The field speaks and far beats the spotlight.
