Slaughtering a lamb is not allowed here. “I saw that once in Turkey, but I prefer not to see it,” says a woman, “I leave that to other people.”
The festival of sacrifice is mainly about sharing with each other, including with people who are less fortunate. Like many other families, a sheep is donated here to a family abroad.
To share
This sharing also takes the form of giving pocket money to the children. At the end of the meeting, everyone greets each other one more time before leaving. The children receive money from the adults.
“We have already prepared quite a bit,” says Omer, “It is also all about giving something back to the next generation.”
