VfL and Verl openly exchange blows
From the start, both teams were uncompromising in their search for a way forward and exchanged blows openly at a good footballing level. After just 35 seconds, the guests had the chance to make it 1-0 through Cyrill Akono. VfL keeper Philipp Kühn dived when the former Lübecker shot and prevented Osnabrück from falling behind early on.
On the other side, Aaron Opoku enraptured the “Purple-Whites” supporters with a fine dribbling. However, the attacker failed to cap his individual performance with a goal. His shot went to the side netting (3′).
Traoré equalizes for Osnabrück
Neither team took the time to catch their breath. Lukas Kunze for VfL (8th) and Joel Grodowski for Verl (12th) missed further good chances before Ron Berlinski gave East Westphalia the lead (20th). Grodowski had staged the former striker of the fifth division club RSV Meinerzhagen perfectly.
VfL’s answer? She came eleven minutes later and equalized: Omar Traoré energetically asserted himself after a cross from Florian Kleinhansl into the penalty area and made it 1-1 with a powerful left-footed shot – the half-time score.
“Joker” Oduah forgives VfL leadership miserably
After the break, the home side had more possession, but were initially unable to create any clear chances. After a much too short back pass from Verl’s Vinko Sapina to his keeper Niclas Thiede, substitute Emeka Oduah suddenly had a huge chance to make it 2-1. The strangest scene of the 33rd third division matchday followed: The 19-year-old, completely free-standing, could not make up his mind to finish, ran towards the goal and then slipped. Thiede was able to easily pick up the ball (65′).
Klaas compensates for another deficit
It was to get even worse for VfL: 120 seconds later, the Lower Saxony conceded the goal to 1:2 by Aaron Berzel after a corner kick, which Lukas Petkov was able to extend with his head undisturbed. But the “Lila”-Whites” showed morale again and were also lucky that Sapina went to work woodenly against Heider in their own penalty area. Sebastian Klaas safely converted the penalty kick that was due (73rd).
Heider makes Bremer Bridge tremble
The Osnabrück team also had the last word in an eventful and very entertaining game. Club icon Heider shook the stadium on Bremer Brücke in the 85th minute with a header to make it 3-2 and fueled VfL’s hopes of returning to the second division.
