Wilfred Genee is in conflict with Talpa about more free time. Like René van der Gijp, he would like to have one evening off a week from Today Inside. “Well, then everyone in the spots was equal!”
Because of a complaining woman, René van der Gijp now only sits at the Today Inside talk show table four evenings a week. The football expert is free every Wednesday, so on that evening there is room for two alternating guests. And the on-duty presenter, Wilfred Genee, appears to be happy with such an evening of queuing.
For the money
Rob Kemps asks him in the podcast As long as it’s fun. “What if you just received the same money from VI, but you no longer had to do it. Would you continue to do it?”
Wilfred then: “Then I would do it a little less, I think. Then I will take time off more often.”
Rob: “Why don’t you do it then?”
Wilfred: “Because then I won’t get the same money.”
Rob: “Yes, so you do it for the money. That is the conclusion.”
‘It’s different’
Wilfred denies that. “Well, no, it’s different. If I get less money for it, I would also be fine with it, but they think… Look, René has now been given a day off and the management thought: that is possible. But if Johan or I leave, then they say: then it is no longer there.”
He continues: “I also said at one point: ‘Just give me one day off a week.’ Well, back then everyone was the same in the spots, so that was absolutely not an option.”
“That’s up to you!”
Rob finds it strange that Wilfred pretends that he does not decide that himself. “No, that is an option, because you decide that, right?”
Wilfred then: “Yes, you could certainly determine that with the next contract. I see that Thomas van Groningen could absolutely take over, so that possibility is there.”
‘Pretty tasty’
It seems that Wilfred is really fed up, because he expresses the same wish to René van der Gijp in their column The Newspapers. “When I arrived here a little earlier last week and had some time off, I understood what you meant, that it is quite nice to have one day off a week and to be able to enjoy it more often.”
The VI presenter continues: “I understand that. We are in quite a heavy rhythm, if you think about it. Always keep going, every evening.”
Thomas in VI?
Wouldn’t Wilfred find it difficult if Thomas regularly took his place? Wilfred in front of the camera RTL Boulevard: “When Thomas van Groningen took over those broadcasts from me, I thought that I would have to get used to it and that I would find it difficult.”
“But the day I arrived here and started the program, I thought: wow, how nice to do something different, actually. I also had time to sit back, listen and have long conversations. I have to tell you: I really like that.”
