Hannover 96 is looking for a long-term solution for the sporting leadership; a decision on the successor to Jörg Schmadtke, who left the club in March after just three months in office, should be made soon. According to information from “Bild”, Jonas Boldt is one of the hot candidates for the position of sports director.
The district has been reduced to three candidates in the past few days, at least one of whom would have to terminate his contract with another club in the event of an agreement, the regional newspaper “Neue Presse” reported. According to “Bild”, the former sports director of Hamburg SV Boldt is considered a candidate with good prospects for the vacant leadership position at the second division club. However, the 44-year-old has a clear idea of the direction of his role, which must therefore be designed as a clear managerial position in the sporting area, it is said.
Boldt has been without a permanent club position since his separation from HSV. He worked as sports director in Hamburg from 2019 to 2024 before the club parted ways with him after missing out on promotion to the Bundesliga again and installed Stefan Kuntz as his successor. Boldt had previously worked at Bayer 04 Leverkusen for many years, including in scouting and later in a managerial position in the sporting area.
In Hanover, Schmadtke’s tasks have been taken over on an interim basis by managing director Henning Bindzus and sports director Ralf Becker in recent months. It remains to be seen whether Boldt will become concrete. What is clear, however, is the challenge for the Lower Saxony team, who narrowly missed out on relegation from the Bundesliga on the last matchday, to get the sporting management back on a sustainable footing in a timely manner.
