DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) – BVB sports director (BVB (Borussia Dortmund)) Ole Book has clearly rejected the possible departure of national soccer player Felix Nmecha this summer. “Felix will also play for us next season, that’s the clear plan. He is one of the best midfielders in Germany, and he doesn’t need to hide in Europe either,” Book told “Sport Bild” about the German World Cup driver. The 25-year-old has “an enormous importance for our game.”
Nmecha had only extended his contract in March until 2030, but according to media reports there was an exit clause in it. When exactly this could take effect is unclear. With strong performances at the World Cup, the central midfielder could further attract the attention of interested parties.
Adeyemi: Extension or departure
This option is not available for Karim Adeyemi. The winger was not considered for the tournament by Julian Nagelsmann. According to sports director Lars Ricken, the runner-up is negotiating a contract extension with the 24-year-old. Otherwise, Dortmund is likely to aim for a sale before the coming season. Going into the final year of his contract with Adeyemi was “not the preferred solution,” said Book.
The BVB squad should change, especially in the offensive, in order to show more creativity and effectiveness in the new season. The club wants to continue working with coach Niko Kovac beyond 2027. “There is great mutual respect so that we can take the next steps together. Consistency in this position is very important to me,” said Ricken./dav/DP/zb
