German national team player Fabio Wagner received a gigantic 14-game ban before the World Cup in a match against his club team Red Bull Munich.
The match in which the breakdown occurred was exceptional in every way. The relationship between Munich and ERC Ingolstadt was so hostile that the last 100 seconds were not played at all.
The jury whistled for a total of 175 minutes. Munich got 125 of them.
Wagner received the hardest penalty of the match, because his tackle by Edwin Tropmann the head was extremely cruel. Tropmann lost consciousness and was hospitalized.
Wagner has apologized for his tackle, and he didn’t hide from it in the World Cup either. There are still seven matches remaining in the ban next fall.
– I have to accept my punishment, the German said humbly.
Sitting in the stands complicated the defender’s preparation for the World Cup tournament.
– I was on a long break and after that I played a couple of training games. However, I got back into playing shape and I was physically fine.

According to Wagner, there have been other big penalties in the German league this season. The tolerance for pigging is low.
– A few months earlier there were a couple of long suspensions.
According to Iltalehti World Cup hockey expert Niko Hovisen, bans are handed out more consistently in Europe than in the SM league. In addition to Finland and Germany, Hovinen has played in Switzerland and Austria.
– In Finland, it always seems to be a bit of a lottery, what comes from there at any time. Certainly abroad, there are clearer tones for it, how many games can be scored from any foul, says the expert.
The World Cup in Germany did not go smoothly. The team lost right at the beginning of the games to all the top countries in Group A: Finland, Switzerland, USA and Latvia. After that, it didn’t help anymore, even though the black shirts overthrew Hungary, Austria and Britain.
– Unfortunately, we didn’t get points in the first games, even though we played well against Latvia and the USA. We would have missed those points, Wagner regretted.
