Wednesday’s program in Paris: first time against Argentina for the Italian n.1. Federico and Lorenzo challenge De Jong and Paul respectively. Zverev and Djokovic are also on the court
Time for second rounds at Roland Garros, and more time for a lot of Italy on the pitch. There will be three of our representatives involved tomorrow, two boys and only the female Jasmine Paolini. The Italian n.1, thirteenth seeded, will face Solana Sierra after a good debut. Theirs will be the third match since 11 on Suzanne Lenglen, the second most important of the French tournament. They will play after Khachanov-Trungelliti (match which took the place of de Minaur-Blockx, due to the Belgian’s withdrawal) and Starodubtseva-Rybakina, therefore around 3.30pm. It will be the first meeting between the two players, with Sierra coming off a good period of form, also capable of dragging Gauff to the third set at the Italian Internationals.

Therefore, a non-trivial commitment, like those awaiting Cinà and Sonego. Federico will play immediately, first match on Court 6, at 11. After becoming the first player in 2007 to win a match in a Slam, among other things as a qualifier, the Italian will try to do even better, dreaming of the third round (against Khachanov or Trungelliti). He will face Jesper De Jong, lucky loser who defeated Stan Wawrinka in his last participation in the red Slam. Lorenzo Sonego will instead play later in the day, as the fourth and final match from 11am on Court 7. The Turin player will face Tommy Paul, seeded 24th and capable of reaching the quarterfinals here last year, around 5.30pm. After two women’s matches and the eagerly awaited match of Rafael Jodar, who will challenge James Duckworth. Finally, Sara Errani is worth mentioning: she will team up with the young Lilli Tagger, student of Francesca Schiavone, against Kenin/Krueger. It will be the second match from 11am on Court 3, around 12.30pm.

Wednesday will be a day for the lower part of the men’s draw, therefore mainly for the No. 2 and 3 seeds Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic. The Serbian will close the daytime session on Chatrier, the third match from 12pm after the unexpected Bejlek-Swiatek and Svitolina-Quevedo, around 3.30pm Sasha will instead play in the evening, not before 8.15pm, in a very intriguing second round against Tomas Machac. Among the matches not to be missed is also the n.15 seeding Casper Ruud, fourth on Lenglen, after Paolini, against the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic. On the third most important field, the Simonne Mathieu, McNally-Bencic, Ugo Carabelli-Rublev and the French derby Humbert-Halys. Which would define Zverev’s eventual adversary in the third round. Mirra Andreeva, n.8 in the women’s draw, and the Spanish Quevedo will finish.
