Game of Thrones– and Skins-series, British actress Hannah Murray, 36, says of The Guardian in an interview, how he drifted into a wellness cult and ended up being hospitalized for psychosis.
Murray was in the United States Detroit– on the set of the movie, when he was introduced to the local energy nurse. At that time, 27-year-old Murray had struggled with feeling unwell when he went to the nurse while shooting a film with many nude scenes, with dark tones.
Murray told the energy nurse a lot, from filming the movie to the pressure to be happy. With the successful meeting, he ended up on various courses recommended by the nurse.
Murray did not question the reliability of the energy healer and the talk about “spiritual DNA” and the use of “powerful and ancient” tools. He also did not find out about the organization that organized the courses from online sources.
– The pyramid was built to exploit anyone who tried to climb it, Murray writes in his memoir The Make-Believe, according to The Guardian.
Murray admits to being superstitious because he grew up with Harry Potter.
– When I went through psychosis, my brain was like a cocktail of those stories. The thought that I had discovered the truth that I had this incredible destiny. I was going to save the world. I knew how to fly, Murray writes in his book.
In the cult, Murray met the man he calls in the book To Steve. Game of Thrones -a self-confessed fan, Steve was, in Murray’s words, self-confident, powerful and had a magical power. Murray attended the courses he taught.
Murray began to pay attention to new things in the cult. The teachers, most of whom were women, mostly wore skirts. The students also had to dress like this. Attention was also drawn to Steve’s sexually tinged jokes during lectures.
Murray asked a teacher if it was a sex cult. The teacher denied this, citing that Steve is “good at breaking the ego, which brings out the sexual stuff.”
At the end of one five-day course, Murray became volatile. He lived on little sleep and spoke at a very fast pace. Among other things, Murray also saw symbols and signs and connected, for example, a dinner eaten with five other participants to the five miscarriages his mother experienced before Murray was born.
Murray started hearing Steve’s voices in his head. She believed that he loved her, that they would marry together, and that Steve had special powers.
Murray locked himself in the bathroom and behind the door the teachers chanted the evil spirit out of Hannah.
Murray ended up in the hospital, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
– It felt very important to say that I went through this. Many people go through this. That doesn’t mean they’re bad or forever messed up, Murray states in his book.
Murray first became known Skins– series, where she played Cassie Ainsworth in the first two seasons. Murray was 16 when he got the role. He later starred in the Game of Thrones series.
Due to the cult experience, Murray has withdrawn from the public eye and acting.
