Seven years with violets

SSV Jahn Regensburg has presented its third newcomer, Erik Majetschak (26). The defensive midfielder comes on a free transfer from relegated FC Erzgebirge Aue and has a contract until June 30, 2028. In seven years with the Violets, Majetschak played 146 games (nine goals), 33 of them in the past season.

“Erik brings a lot of experience and has already proven his qualities in recent years. He is a technically very clean player, has a strong understanding of the game and is also characterized by his strength in duels and headers. We are pleased that we were able to convince him of a future together at SSV Jahn,” said sports director Alexander Schmalhofer.

Majetschak added: “I’m looking forward to joining an ambitious club. That also corresponds to my personal values. I want to play attractive football and bring in the working-class mentality.” According to the Auer, who at the same time announced the signing of Meuselwitz’ attacker Christoph Pauling (25), the defensive player had an offer for an extension, but wanted to stay in the 3rd league. There were critical words from Majetschak, who thanked the fans and emphasized that saying goodbye was not easy.

Criticism from Majetschak on saying goodbye to Erzgebirge Aue

“The desire to put this right again, for me personally, but especially for you, for the Erzgebirge, for Aue, was omnipresent,” wrote Majetschak in an Instagram post about the relegation after 23 years in professional football. “I would have liked to continue on this path with you. But the ideas of those responsible and me were ultimately too far apart in terms of sporting perspective and appreciation. This is the reality that probably often occurs in the football business. This decision is still very fresh for me and still feels unusual, sad and almost unreal.”

At the end, Majetschak wrote words of warning with reference to internal differences in the club: “I have one last request: get back to living your buddy values and don’t work against each other at every turn. You have a great coach in Shubi (Khvicha Shubitidze; d editor), give him your complete trust and the time to lead this special club back to where it belongs: in professional football. PS: You’ll always see each other twice in my life, I’m already looking forward to it. The deep connection is there, nothing will ever change.”
