For many people, a wonderful long Pentecost weekend is just around the corner. A great opportunity to get out and enjoy everything our province has to offer. Below you will find an overview of some activities in Drenthe.

Activities on Saturday:

Traditionally, the Sheep Shearing Festival takes place in Exloo on the Saturday before Pentecost. The herd is then sheared by hand by the shearers. In addition, the Open Dutch Championship for shearing by hand takes place and visitors can follow a sheep shearing workshop. There is also a craft market with regional products, demonstrations, music and a bouncy castle.

De Brink in Ruinen will once again become an international open-air restaurant on Saturday. This year, the Wereldse Heerlyckheid Food Festival brings together dishes from ten world cuisines. Visitors are introduced to authentic flavors from Curaçao, Drenthe, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iran, Kurdistan, Uyghur area, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen. Dishes are prepared by status holders and local catering entrepreneurs.

On Saturday, driveway sales will take place at more than forty addresses in Borger. Residents sell second-hand items, home decoration, books, toys and other finds from their own driveway or garden between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The driveway sale in Borger is a fun way to stroll through the village and discover hidden gems.

This weekend everything will revolve around the battle for the national title in the Men’s Eredivisie at the TC Suthwalda tennis park. Four top teams compete in Zuidwolde for the national championship, with home club Suthwalda playing the leading role as the reigning national champions. The matches start on Saturday at 12 noon and admission is free. Additional stands have been placed in the park to receive the public.

Café Rue de la Gare in Emmen will hold the third edition of RUE POP on Saturday, an event where music and food come together. From 3:30 PM, four musical acts and bands will perform one after the other, while the barbecue and pans are running at full speed outside. The performances last until midnight and are free to admire.

Sniffing and searching for well-known books and forgotten classics. After years of absence, it is possible again on Saturday at the Book Market at the Aole municipal cover of Westerbork. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., thousands of books in various genres can be found in the center of Westerbork.
