The birds of prey have had a nest in the nature reserve for three years. Six weeks ago the first cub was born. Ten days later a second chick also arrived. But that chick has almost certainly died, says the curator of De Blankaart. Only one chick has been visible from the ground for days.
Various causes of death are possible. The chick may have died in the nest due to the wet and windy period after birth. There is also a chance that the parents or the other chick have eaten the chick.
