Coach Antonio Conte has announced his departure from the traditional Italian football club SSC Napoli after two years.
The coach announced his resignation at the press conference after the 1-0 home win against Udinese Calcio on the final day of the Serie A season. His contract actually runs until 2027.
“It was an honor to coach such a prestigious club like SSC Napoli,” Conte said. “I informed the president of my decision a few weeks ago. But he told me that if I changed my mind by the end of the season, Naples would remain my home.”
Rasmus Hojlund (24th) scored the only goal of the game, which secured Naples second place with 76 points. After the game, Conte said a long goodbye from the stands of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Conte as National coach traded
Under his leadership, Naples won the fourth Italian championship title in the club’s history in 2025. Conte (56) coached Italy’s national team from 2014 to 2016 and, according to Italian media, he is now the favorite for the vacant position of national coach.
The Squadra Azzurra failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row in March and then fired Gennaro Gattuso.
