“It really makes a world of difference,” says a woman who came especially to try out the gate herself. “I had read the article about the swing gate and wanted to see if it was really that dangerous. And to be honest, it was.” Now she walks along the fence without difficulty. “That’s just how it should be,” she says, laughing.
Other passers-by also immediately notice the difference. “I used to walk partly across the street to avoid the gate, but that is no longer necessary,” says a mother who picks up her son from school.
Another parent is especially relieved that the gate no longer swings back hard. “Now I don’t have to worry that my son will come home without teeth.” An older man walking by sums it up succinctly: “Much better this way.”
Fence previously too heavy
The fence previously caused quite a bit of discussion in the neighborhood. When Streeksstad Centraal took stock after its installation, passers-by called the fence ‘dangerous’, ‘far from ideal’ and ‘much too heavy’.
