Alexander Zverev recently suffered from back problems. The German tennis star has now reported fit and expressed his excitement for the French Open.
“I had some time off after Rome. I was able to take care of my back a little and went to some doctors in Germany, which was very helpful, and I feel good,” said the 29-year-old and announced, with a view to his first round match against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi: “I feel ready, and yes, hopefully I can show that on the pitch on Sunday.”
Zverev recently had to cancel the start of his home tournament in Hamburg due to back problems. “The back problems started last year and I struggled with them all year long. Then I went to Doctor Müller-Wohlfahrt in December. I felt incredibly good for the first three months of the season until the end of April. Then the problems started again in Munich and after a few games I was really struggling,” said Zverev. After another treatment at Müller-Wohlfahrt it felt “fantastic”.
Zverev reached the final in Paris in 2024 and lost dramatically to Carlos Alcaraz. Last year, the German number one failed in the quarterfinals to Novak Djokovic. This time, after Alcaraz’s cancellation due to injury, Zverev is number two behind top favorite Jannik Sinner.
