Kylie Minogue has put a persistent rumor to rest: she is said to be featured on Madonna’s new album “Confessions II”. The Queen of Pop releases her 15th studio album – a counterpart to 2005’s “Confessions on a Dance Floor” – on July 3, and fans had speculated that the two singers would perform together on it.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about her new Netflix documentary Kylie, Minogue said: “It’s a strange story. There was a rumor that I was on her album – but that’s not true. I’m excited to hear it.”

However, Minogue has confirmed that she is working on new music. “There’s a new song called ‘Light Up’ that fits perfectly into the documentary,” she said. “He’s not a ‘padam’, but he has a lot of heart.”

Inspiration behind “Light Up”

On the inspiration behind “Light Up,” she explained: “First I thought of my mother – because in this documentary you can see – don’t make me cry now – I love her so much. I wrote about the feeling when you’re struggling, whether you’re a child or an adult, and someone who loves you looks you in the eyes and – like a manga comic – you zoom in and see this world of possibilities. When you’re lost, helpless or empty, someone inside you can Seeing what you don’t see yourself lights you up, and you get through that moment.”

She added: “You can go on stage and do what you’re supposed to do, even when everything feels impossible. Parental love, friendship – that can extend to the love of the audience. Because they give you the strength to go out and share those moments. That’s a wonderful thing.”

In 2024, Minogue and Madonna appeared on stage together at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, during Madonna’s Celebration Tour. For International Women’s Day they performed duets of Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”.

Together they would bring buildings down

A year earlier, Minogue had joked about the overwhelming power she and Madonna would unleash together. “She’s going on tour. I don’t have Madonna’s number, but if I was in town and she was too, that would be amazing,” she told 103.5 KTU. “The building would probably collapse. We’d have to send out warnings!”

Madonna has released two songs from “Confessions II” so far: “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love,” a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter.
