The woman accused of throwing an unknown substance at Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham as part of an alleged years-long stalking campaign appeared before a judge in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday – after pleading not guilty to seven counts.

Michelle Dick, 55, was led into the courtroom wearing a blue and yellow prison uniform and bound with a waist belt. Her public defender said he needed more time to review the evidence and requested an adjournment to June 23.

Judge Lucy Armendariz then turned to Dick and asked if she understood that she was entitled to a more timely evidentiary hearing. In a barely audible voice, Dick answered in the affirmative. The judge then asked whether Dick agreed to her attorney’s request for more time.

Brief appearance in the courtroom

“Yeah, but I wanted to…” Dick said, trailing off as her lawyer leaned over and whispered something in her ear. Dick then consented to the adjournment and was led out of the courtroom while still in custody.

Dick was arrested in Indiana in April after she allegedly confronted Buckingham on March 25 in Santa Monica, California, despite a no-contact order. She was ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from the musician because of the alleged pattern of stalking.

She quietly entered her not guilty plea to the seven charges on May 6 after authorities transferred her back to the county, according to a case file that surfaced Tuesday.

The allegations in detail

In an amended indictment dated April 7, prosecutors accuse Dick of repeatedly stalking and harassing Buckingham between October 9, 2021 and March 25, 2026. According to the indictment, Dick physically attacked Buckingham and threatened him with criminal offenses on March 25; She is said to have physically attacked him using a motor vehicle as a weapon on March 19th. She is also said to have damaged Buckingham’s Mercedes-Benz S450 on March 19. Authorities allege she defaced the luxury car “with graffiti and other scratched content.”

In the incident on March 25, Dick allegedly chased Buckingham to the scene and threw a substance at the 76-year-old musician before she fled. A law enforcement person familiar with the case told Rolling Stone that it was initially unclear whether the substance was caustic. Buckingham was unhurt.

Dick also faces a separate charge of making a threat against Buckingham on December 20, 2024. About a month earlier, Buckingham had filed for a restraining order against Dick, detailing years of harassment and linking it to a “swatting” incident in November 2024. According to court documents, Dick called 911 and falsely reported that Buckingham’s son was suicidal and that shots had been fired at the family property in Brentwood – triggering a massive police operation.

Buckingham’s statement in court

“When I opened the door, I was handcuffed and asked to step outside,” Buckingham wrote in a statement to the court, obtained by ROLLING STONE. “After 20 minutes of police searching my house… I was allowed back in – shaken and scared.”

An LAPD detective later contacted Dick at the same number and said she admitted to the call, according to court documents. Buckingham said the harassment began in 2021 with repeated calls, threats and delusional claims that he was Dick’s father. He also accused Dick of targeting his family and showing up at his Los Angeles homes.

A judge issued the temporary restraining order in December 2024, requiring Dick to stay away from Buckingham, his wife and his son for five years. She also had to stay away from their homes and vehicles.

Threats against Buckingham’s family

Buckingham explained that Dick had parked their car in front of one of the homes he shared with his wife. Police chased Dick from the address and later stopped and questioned her – the exchange was recorded on a body camera, the documents say.

“She started talking crazy things about me being her father and how I had suffocated her as a child,” Buckingham wrote. Further threats on Instagram were directed against his wife. “This incident has deeply frightened my wife because she feared for her safety. Since Ms. Dick also knows my home address, I am also in great fear,” he wrote. (A spokesman for Buckingham did not respond to ROLLING STONE’s request for comment.)

Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 with Stevie Nicks, his partner in the folk rock duo Buckingham Nicks. He wrote and sang many of the band’s best-known songs, including “Go Your Own Way.” In 2018 there was a falling out with the band – allegedly over a dispute over the schedule of a world tour.
