AND THE CHILDREN AFTER THEM
Type: Bildungsroman ✦✦✦
Direction: Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma. With Paul Kircher, Gilles Lellouche, Ludivine Sagnier
They explore, with authentic passion, the mythology of the American West, blending it with good reading (in addition to the Goncourt-winning best-seller by Nicolas Mathieu on which the film is based, perhaps also the nineteenth-century novel) the Boukherma twins, who grew up, like their hero, in the desolate French province.
Four summers, from 1992 to ’98, the best youth gets boredbehind the rivalry between Anthony (played by Paul Kircher, perfect in his melancholy and indolence) and his peer Hacine, the theft of a motorbike, the soundtrack is by Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers, the family is a destiny to escape from, the dream is Texas, distant and unattainable.

Lives linked to a geography, to the disappearance of a world (a workers’ village, a factory that closes, resentment that mounts, love that fades). The authors, who studied at Luca Besson’s free school, but fortunately did not acquire the skills, after their debut with monster films, are faced with a past that for them, born in 1992, can only be literature. They say a lot without ever doing too much. Baptizing a new generation of actors, starting with a very well-matched trio: Paul Kircher, Angelina Woreth and Sayyid El Alami.
