Netflix plans to offer a subscription with advertising in the Netherlands from 2027. The streaming service has been offering these cheaper subscriptions in several major countries since 2022, including the United States and France. In Germany this subscription costs 4.99 euros per month.
Netflix cannot yet say the exact start date of the advertising subscription and cannot provide clarity about the price in the Netherlands. The big difference with the current form is that with the subscription with advertising, short commercial breaks can be seen before and during films and series.
Advertising revenue is increasingly important for Netflix. In the last quarterly update, the streaming service stated that revenues in that category will double this year.
Other streaming services
With the new package, Netflix in the Netherlands follows the example of a number of other streaming services. HBO Max, Disney+ and Videoland all already have a subscription form where the user can watch series and films with commercials for just over half of a regular subscription.
In addition to the Netherlands, the new subscription is also being rolled out in fourteen other countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
Netflix has been available in the Netherlands since 2013. A standard subscription currently costs around 16 euros in our country.
