The Wilhelmina Hospital Assen is considering making a bid for the NAM head office on Scherpersmaat in Assen that is for sale. This is what director Erwin van Santen says.

“WZA is investigating how we will shape the future of the building,” says Van Santen. The building on Europaweg-Zuid dates from 1990. Due to the sustainability requirements and technical installations that run out at some point, you have to replace them at some point.”

The WZA is considering several options for this. The director does not want to say anything about which other locations the WZA is considering. “We are considering whether to stay at the current location or move to another location.”

In the event of a move, the location of the NAM head office will in any case be considered, possibly in collaboration with other healthcare parties. “We are in discussions with all stakeholders. We do not just have a few hundred million euros to make this possible. We are looking with other healthcare parties at how we can do this and how we can shape future healthcare. That is still very much in the preliminary phase.”

Another option is to renovate the current location. “The advantage of (building at) another location is that you can continue as normal in the current context. Otherwise you always have to create alternative facilities for patients. That is one of the considerations. These are complicated issues.”

WZA has the opportunity to make a bid for the NAM building until May 28.
