The Roeselare-Leie canal already processes around 4 million tons of goods per year, but according to Flanders this could double in the long term. This will require major works so that larger ships can use the canal.
The first priorities are the construction of an additional lock in Ooigem and the renovation of the head of the canal in Roeselare. This includes deepening the canal and renewing quay walls.
