Father dies: mourning for former national coach Flick

Shortly before the decisive championship game against Real Madrid, Hansi Flick has to cope with a stroke of fate. The Barça coach mourns the loss of his father.
A serious blow of fate for Hansi Flick: the father of the former national coach has died. Flick’s club, FC Barcelona, announced this on Sunday.
“FC Barcelona and the entire Blaugrana family would like to express our condolences to Hansi Flick on the death of his father,” the club wrote on X. “We share your pain and stand by you and your family in this difficult moment.”
The news comes on the day of the important championship game against Real Madrid (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). With a win or a draw in the “Clásico,” FC Barcelona could defend their Spanish league title. Flick and his team had already won the championship last season.
The 61-year-old has been coaching the Catalans since 2024. He was previously fired as national coach after two years (2021 to 2023). With FC Bayern, Flick once won two championships as well as the DFB Cup and the Champions League. As assistant coach to Joachim Löw, he became world champion with the DFB team in Brazil in 2014.
