Class counter via Simakan
The guests never got control of their game, only a discarded free kick by Andrej Kramaric, which Christoph Baumgartner was unable to place on goal, caused a hint of danger in the 40th minute. The people of Leipzig remained more effective. After the guests lost the ball again, Simakan drove the ball forward down the right wing, Nkunku unselfishly put his pass across to Szoboszlai, who made the preliminary decision in the 44th minute.
In the second round, Leipzig took their foot off the gas a little, possibly already thinking about the second leg in Bergamo next Thursday. Hoffenheim never really got into the game and remained extremely flawed in the game structure for a European aspirant. There was also no rebellion, apparently early in the second round the insight had spread not to become too open to counterattacks again.
Missed chances to win
Leipzig had the better chances even in gentle gear, but Nkunku (51st), Forsberg (69th), Szoboszlai (74th) and Dani Olmo (83rd) missed a possible victory.
TSG can now make amends against SpVgg Fürth on Easter Sunday (April 17th, 2022), Leipzig is challenged at Bayer Leverkusen three days after the Bergamo game.
