In the first half there was still quite a spectacle to experience in the Woudestein stadium. After just two minutes, FC Volendam took the lead through Benjamin Pauwels. “We started very well today. That was very positive,” says trainer Rick Kruys. “That gave us a boost and we barely gave anything away.”
Point held
Excelsior leveled just before the end of the first half through an own goal by Gibson Yah. In the second half Kruys also agreed that he was happy with a point.
“It no longer mattered whether we would win or not, because the goal difference played too big a role in it. I saw a male FC Volendam and we held on to that point.”
