Celebrations from the FC Bayern footballers: At the last home game in Munich there was not only a win, but also the championship trophy.
The FC Bayern Women completed their fourth championship in a row ahead of time – and now, at the last home game, there was also the trophy: DFB President Bernd Neuendorf presented captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir with the coveted trophy.
At 5:47 p.m., the Icelander held up the bowl and handed it to her teammates. The players celebrated exuberantly with the fans to the sounds of various evergreens such as “We are the Champions” and “Sweet Caroline”. For coach José Barcala there was the obligatory beer shower.
Undefeated for the fourth title in a row
The Munich team more than deserved their eighth German championship – the Barcala team dominated the league undefeated. FCB also won the game against Eintracht Frankfurt – the hosts sent the Hessians home 2-0. Arianna Caruso (12th) and Pernille Harder scored for the champions with their 16th goal of the season (47th).
Double is waiting for the FCB women
The strenuous season with many English weeks is not yet over for FC Bayern Women. Even if their big dream of reaching the Champions League final was dashed after their semi-final defeat against FC Barcelona, they still have the opportunity – like last year – to win the double. On Thursday, May 14th, big rivals VfL Wolfsburg are waiting for FCB in the DFB Cup final. The last game at Hamburger SV is three days away.
Stars like Schüller and Grohs said goodbye
Before kick-off it was time to say “Hello”. Lea Schüller and Tuva Hansen, who left the club in the winter, came all the way from England to be officially farewelled with lots of applause and a bouquet of flowers. Georgia Stanway and Carolin Simon will also be looking for new challenges.
Leaves after many years Maria Luisa “Mala” Grohs also the club. There was a standing ovation for the goalkeeper – the 24-year-old had fought her way back from cancer but was recently only number two in the squad due to the strong performances of DFB substitute goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic. “I’m very happy about the appreciation,” said Grohs after the game.
